Hi, I find myself in a situation totally unlike any I have faced before. My husband of 2 and 1/2 years was diagnoised with end stage renal disease in April of this year. He was already dealing with visual impairment and diabetes. He had to have gallbladder surgery with complications that kept him in the hospital for a week in October of 2006 but once he recovered from that we thought that everything was going to be ok and he's been taking classes working towards getting his degree in computer engineering. Then BAM this April here comes the kidney problems, he went in for a routine check-up and his creatine and bun were horrible. So back we go to spend another week in the hospital and from there directly to hemo treatments three times a week. He's getting ready to start PD dialysis and we are working on getting him on the transplant list. But the medical bills just keep rolling in, he's on Medicare but they don't pay for everything and I find myself just staring at the stack of bills and going crazy trying to figure out how to pay them all. I try to stay upbeat and positive for his sake and deal with everything on my own but it's reached the point I don't know what to do. Before we were married I worked full time for the same company for 11 years but I left that job in September of 2006. I was busy filling our applications and considering starting my own business when he got sick with the gallbladder problems. Then when he decided to go back to school because of his visual impairment I became his primary source of transportation to/from the university, we live about 45 minutes away. I found a part-time job near the university and I worked there while he was in class but when school was out for the summer it was not cost effective for me to keep driving that far, it would have cost more than it paid. Now with the hemo and other appointments and the trips to the hospital that does the transpants which is two hours away from where we live, it's almost impossible for me to find a job. Plus if I start working it will increase our family income and he would start to lose the benefits that he has. So I don't know what to do, I feel like I'm in that "canoe with no paddles" and it's headed straight towards the rapids. If anyone has any advice I would truly appreciate it? Thanks so much for listening and letting me vent.
